Is a temporary email address safe?
For sign-ups and one-time codes, yes. A temporary address keeps your real one private and your mail is deleted automatically. It is not meant for accounts you need to keep, and this page explains why.
Who can read your mail
Only someone with your inbox key. The key stays in your browser and is never sent in a link we can see; we store only a scrambled version of it. Knowing the address alone does not open the inbox.
What is stored, and for how long
Messages up to 1 MB, for as long as the address lives: 24 hours, or up to 7 days if you extend it. Attachments are not stored. Everything is deleted within an hour after the address expires.
Mail is shown in a safe frame
Scripts in mail never run, and remote images stay blocked until you choose to show them. That stops tracking pixels and most tricks hidden in mail.
What it does not protect
Once an address expires it can later be given to someone else, who would receive new mail sent to it. So never use a temporary address for banking, shopping accounts, work or anything you may need to recover.
